Discount Rate -The interest rate charged to commercial banks and other depository institutions for loans received from the Federal Reserve Bank’s discount window. -The Fed’s Discount Rate is an administered rate set by the Federal Reserve Banks, rather than a market rate of interest. The discount rate, by contrast, is the interest rate charged by the Federal Reserve for discount loans. As such, it is not market determined, but rather set by the Federal Reserve.
